Music Score: Bye Berlusconi... no more Cocaine Decisions.

It really doesn't matter that Silvio Berlusconi wasn't defeated on an electoral process. After 17 years fulfilled with controversy and all sort of scandals, and specially after turning Italy's politics into a circus, il Cavaliere finally leaves his armchair, the one he clutched so bad, eventhough he had always insistedly defended the opposite idea.  Well, here's the paradox: the man with the big ego, who saw himself as an important frontman, finally had to leave against his will through the backdoor.

The soundtrack chosen for such event, is full of harshness, I think the occasion deserves so. "Cocaine Decisions" by Frank Zappa, a genious, master at sarcasm, which he would "gently" apply to criticize the corniest side of human behavior and politics. But, why "Cocaine Decisions"? Well, I'm not insinuating that Berlusconi was a cocaine consumer or addict, that doesn't matter here, I just chose this song for one simple reason: it's well known that cocaine is related to some kind of fake sensation of power, delusions of grandeur if you will, and I think that, that kind of delusions perfectly describe Berlusconi, or at least the side of him that he has shown to the world through the years. Also, the song talks on the chorus, about how the decisions you make under cocaine's influence will mean nothing later on, and I find some sort of parallelism between that and Berlusconi plus all the decisions he made while being Prime Minister under his delusions, which after all this time, have come to be nothing but wrong decisions.

To those who aren't much familiar with Zappa's music and ideas, I shall point out that, contrary to the popular belief that he was a drug consumer, he was totally against drugs, well not the drugs themselves, but the effects and consequences they have on people: erratic behavior, delusions...

Without a doubt, Berlusconi's fall is one of a historic occasion that I think deserves being on my list of soundtracks series, which I've been posting occasionaly during the last months. This one is also accompanied by a little selection of front pages that some media around the world have dedicated recently to his imminent fall, a clear evidence that there was so many people awaiting for the end of Berlusconism to arrive, a moment that seemed would never come.

Feel free to share on the comment box any other tune that you might find appropiate or any other front page that you might have found out there. Enjoy!
